| | Remember that game that boys played in high school (and some still continue into college, unfortunately) where they rated the girls in their classes based on some number system, usually on a scale from 1 to 10? Do you remember that number that you always got? Well, I do. I look back on that number, and I wonder why. Why that number, and what exactly put me there? I was always a 5. Not pretty, not ugly. Just... There. Nothing special. Just... Plain. And why? Is there anyone that can explain this number system to me? I personally don't understand. Everybody has a different opinion on what is "pretty" and the like, so how can a number system be all-encompassing? Nobody is going to agree one hundred percent with another person's ratings, so why even play? I guess I could explain why I'm writing this post, but that's a story within itself and I don't really want to get into it right now. So I guess what I'm asking is, what exactly is the point of the numbers game? How did the ratings get established? And what was your number range (because, like I said, the numbers vary on who you ask)? |
